About Grissom Band
The Instrumental Music Department at Grissom High School strives to maintain a balanced program in all facets of music education. Under the direction Mr. Theo Vernon (Band Director) and Mr. Brent Harris (Associate Band Director), the program has produced individual musicians who are in demand by colleges and universities. The Grissom Bands are well-known, respected and highly recognized for the outstanding performances of the Symphonic Bands, the Jazz Bands and the Marching Tiger Band throughout the Southeast and in many parts of the country. The Symphonic Bands have been honored to perform at many music educators’ and conductors’ conferences. The Symphonic Band I has never received less than a superior rating in any adjudication. The Symphonic Band II has rarely received less than a superior rating in any adjudication and the Concert Band has never received less than an overall excellent rating. The Marching Band has won numerous titles in competitions and festivals throughout the Southeast and has never received less than a superior rating at any of these performances.
Band members are selected by audition and, with an average enrollment of 200-250 students, the Grissom Band is the single largest student organization at Grissom High School. Their dedication to excellence is demonstrated through their outstanding musical performances, their high academic standings and their pride in being a part of the Grissom High School student body. The items that you will find on this site have been designed to promote that spirit among the members of the band family and to also promote school spirit among the entire Grissom community.
